Good morning, Resident
I want to make you aware that recently we have had reports of Rogue Traders operating in Berkhamsted. One specific incident officers were able to intervene with the traders and stopped the work from commencing, this was helped by the public spotting that this was not right and calling the Police. Please be vigilant of anyone approaching your home unsolicited, especially with the intent to sell you goods or services. I have attached a check list of useful information below on what to do if they do knock on your door.
🚨 What to look out for: Cold callers offering services like driveway cleaning, roofing, or gardeningHigh-pressure sales tactics or “today only” dealsClaims of leftover materials from nearby jobsDiscounts given whilst working in your areaRequests for cash up front or refusal to provide written quotes ✅ How to stay safe: Don’t open the door to unexpected callersNever agree to work on the spotAlways have a written contract in place before work begins, with an agreed price and a clear breakdown of what the work includesLook out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours—check in if you see someone at their doorKeep valuables out of sight, especially near doors and windowsNever allow strangers into your home, even if they appear friendly or offer helpConsider fitting a door chain or spyhole so you can speak to callers without fully opening the doorPlace “We do not buy or sell at this door”/ “No cold callers”Research the companies you’re looking to use e.g. ask for references and look online.
